The cottage sits just outside the village of Tarbert at the 'back of the hill' which overlooks Kilpadogue and the River Shannon which divides East and West. It is situated on a pretty slope overlooking one of the prettiest parts of the Shannon, from here the Shannon car ferry crosses to Killimer, County Clare.
The property sits in its own grounds of just under 2 acres. There is plenty of room in the grounds for the children to play, whilst you relax soaking up the views of the river Shannon and the coast line of County Claire in the distance.
County Kerry is one of Ireland's richest counties, in terms of the quality and quantity of places to visit. Most people come to Kerry to see its striking scenery and rich historical and cultural sites. Those looking for evidence of Ireland's long and eventful history are spoilt for choice in County Kerry. Almost everywhere you look there are fine examples of historic buildings.
The county of Kerry can be divided broadly into four main areas: Northern County Kerry, The Iveragh Peninsula and Killarney, the Dingle Peninsula, and the Beara Peninsula.
The village of Tarbert is in Northern Kerry and borders the estuary of the River Shannon it gives the visitor a different experience to the rest of the county. The main town, Tralee, houses the Kerry County Museum, a narrow gauge steam railway and Blennerville Windmill. Other highlights of Northern Kerry include Listowel, the Medieval Ardfert Cathedral and the Tarbert Bridewell Jail and Courthouse.
Tarbert house the home of the Leslie family since 1690, is a Queen Anne/Georgian period building dating from 1690. It is still preserved in its original form with furniture and pictures from the same period. It is a Heritage house recognised by Irish and European authorities. Notable visitors included Benjamin Franklin who visited Sir Edward Leslie after 1776, Lord Kitchener, Winston Churchill, Charlotte Bronte, Daniel O' Connell and Dean Jonathan Swift.

Beach: In front of the cottage there is a stony trail which takes you down through three fields to the secluded stony beach. When on the beach and walking in the direction of the peninsular, you will notice the cliffs start forming amazing rock formations and offer a nice place to sun bathe on the smooth flat rock, or perhaps take a break from the sun and seek the shade that these rock formations also offer.
The beach is ideal for sunbathing as it is secluded, also for long walks and cooling your feet in the sea water or to check out the rock pools. You can walk from the cottage to the beach in about 10 to 15 minutes. The coastal walk along this shore offers fabulous and unparalleled scenery in both directions. There is also a large sandy beach beach at Ballybunion.
Further Details: The village of Tarbert is approximately 15 minutes walk and here you will find local and welcoming pubs and restaurants, an internet cafe, bank as well as the local supermarket and post office. As you approach the village there is a lovely and tranquil walk through The John F Leslie Woodland Walk down to Tarbert Island and the ferry. Then why not catch the ferry as a foot passenger and cross the Shannon to County Claire for a coffee and a bite to eat. From the return ferry crossing you will find marvellous views all around you.
