Ronda is situated in Andalucia in the province of Málaga and stands on a towering plateau in the Serrania de Ronda mountain range. It's often said that Ronda is one if not the prettiest towns in the province and has a great history.
The town of Ronda has 2 different areas, the medieval part of the town with its Moorish influence and the 18th century Mercadillo which is home to many old buildings including the old bullring which is said to be the oldest and arguably the most attractive in Spain. It was from Ronda where the Romero family, who are the founding fathers of bullfighting, practiced.
The two parts of Ronda are separated an amazing gorge named el Tajo, which is spanned by an 18th century bridge called Puente Nuevo. This is a popular place for tourists to come and visit and to stand and look down into the river rushing through the ravine below. The river was said to be used by Franco's men and that they used this as a good place to dispose of their enemies.
When crossing the bridge into el Mercadillo area of Ronda you will see some beautiful gardens leading to the "Mirador" from where you get some amazing views of the Ronda landscape.
You can also take a stroll around the old city walls and down to the Arab Baths which many tourists and Spanish locals alike say are the best kept in Europe.
All in all a visit to Ronda has to be a must, even just for a day trip. It has plenty to offer all, be sure to visit the municipal museum housed in el Palacio de Mondragon.
Ronda also has a thriving shopping area, beautiful garden areas with excellent views and many good tapas bars and restaurants to relax in after all your sightseeing has finished.
