COSTA DE LA LUZ
The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) in Huelva Province runs from the Guadiana River that separates Spain from Portugal to the Guadalquivir River in the east. The Costa de la Luz coastline boasts long, unspoilt golden sandy beaches with by pine woods and sand dunes and many are now protected coastal reserves.
The Costa de la Luz beaches are not as windswept as is the Cadiz section of the coastline. The shoreline in the Costa de la Luz has small fishing ports and modern resorts very popular with Spanish tourists. The resorts are separated by marshes and river Estuaries.
Costa de la Luz in the busy summer months of July and August, are packed to bursting point. If you enjoy lively nightlife and a great atmosphere, this is the time to come to the Costa de la Luz but it's essential to book your holiday accommodation in advance. Outside of the busy summer months, the pace of this costal resort slows down completely.
The Costa de la Luz has less tourists than the other coastlines in Andalucía, but can still offer some seemingly excellent beaches where you can find a secluded spot even in summer. One beach worth a visit is Playa de Castilla east of Matalascañas that runs alongside the Parque Nacional de Donana. Alternatively, there is a 22 km long beach, also part of the Playa de Castilla, which runs between Matalascañas and Mazagón.
Across the border from the Costa de la Luz in Portugal lies Avamonte, a small fishing port that served as a through route to Portugal with its daily ferry across the Guadiana River to Vila Real de Santo Antonio.
There is now a new suspension bridge that crosses the river north of Ayamonte, but this pleasant town is still worth a visit for its lovely squares and small narrow streets. This part of the coast tends to have more foreign tourists than in the other along Huelva's Costa de la Luz, due to its close proximity to the Algarve in Portugal.
The Costa de la Luz is the perfect holiday destination for anyone looking to rent a holiday villa or apartment. Why not book your next holiday villa or apartment in Spain.
